The University of Pretoria was established on 4 March 1908 as the Pretoria campus of the Transvaal University College, and is today a public research university in Pretoria, South Africa's administrative capital. It has roughly 56,409 students across seven suburban campuses covering 1,120 hectares, which makes it one of the country's largest universities. Founded as a bilingual English and Afrikaans institution, it moved to English-only instruction in 2019.
