Hanken School of Economics, established in Helsinki on 1 September 1909 — one month after the Stockholm School of Economics — is the oldest business school in Finland and among the oldest in northern Europe. It took its current Swedish name, Svenska Handelshögskolan, in 1927, opened its second campus in Vaasa in 1980 to serve the Swedish-speaking region of Ostrobothnia, and teaches its programmes in both English and Swedish. In 2018 it joined Aalto University and the University of Helsinki in founding the Helsinki Graduate School of Economics.
