About University of Piraeus

The University of Piraeus was founded in 1938 by the Industrialists and Tradesmen Association as the School for Industrial Studies, created for the advanced training of managerial executives; its seat was established in Piraeus in 1958, it became a public university in 1966 and received its present name in 1989. The second-oldest university in Greece specialising in economics and business, after AUEB, it now spans ten academic departments across business management, computer science, economics, finance and maritime studies — and its Department of Banking and Financial Management is the country's oldest academic department in finance.
