About PUC Chile

The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile was founded on 21 June 1888 by the Archbishop of Santiago, opening with just two subjects — law and mathematics — to train professionals for both traditional careers and practical fields like business and accounting. Pope Pius XI declared it a pontifical university on 11 February 1930, and the Chilean state granted full academic autonomy in 1931. One of Chile's oldest universities and among the top-ranked in Latin America, it teaches through 18 faculties across four Santiago campuses and one in the south, sustaining a storied rivalry — academic and sporting — with the secular University of Chile.
