Renmin University of China, in Beijing's Haidian district, traces its origins to the Shanbei Public School established in 1937, later renamed North China United University and North China University. In 1950 several institutions were merged to form Renmin University of China, and in 1954 it was named one of six national key universities — the youngest at the time. A public university affiliated with the Ministry of Education and co-funded with the Beijing Municipal People's Government, it is part of Project 211, Project 985 and the Double First-Class Construction.
