About Tel Aviv University (Coller)

Tel Aviv University was formed in 1956 by the merger of three research institutes — the Tel Aviv School of Law and Economics (1935), the Institute of Natural Sciences (1931) and the Academic Institute of Jewish Studies (1954). Initially run by the municipality, it gained autonomy in 1963 under founding president George S. Wise. With over 30,000 students it is Israel's largest university for classroom study, spread across an 89-hectare campus in the city's northwest, with nine faculties, hundreds of research centres and laboratories, and academic oversight of engineering and design colleges beyond it.
