The University of Melbourne, founded in 1853, is Australia's second-oldest university and the oldest in Victoria — one of the sandstone universities and a Group of Eight member. Ten Nobel laureates have taught, studied or researched there, the most of any Australian university, and its alumni include four prime ministers and five governors-general. From its Parkville campus north of Melbourne's centre, the university runs fifteen graduate schools, including the Melbourne Business School, alongside affiliated institutes from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute to the Grattan Institute; nine residential colleges have grown up around it since 1872.
