The University of Technology Sydney took its current form in 1988, but its technical lineage runs back to the 1870s, when the Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts of 1833 grew into the Working Men's College and then the Sydney Technical College of 1878. Through the New South Wales Institute of Technology — which absorbed the NSW Institute of Business Studies in 1968 — it became a university at the heart of Sydney. A founding member of the Australian Technology Network, UTS enrolled 51,038 students in 2024 across nine faculties and schools, its business school among them.
