About City University of Hong Kong
The City University of Hong Kong was born of the city's demand for a 'second polytechnic': founded in 1984 as the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong — its name chosen from nearly 300 public suggestions — it opened that October in Mong Kok with 480 full-time and 680 part-time students, and was formally established as a university in 1994. From its Kowloon Tong campus it now teaches through 11 colleges and schools spanning business, computing, engineering, law and even veterinary medicine, with a research institute across the border in Shenzhen.
