The Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), known as Tecnológico de Monterrey, is a private research university based in Monterrey, Mexico, which has grown to 35 campuses across 25 cities and 22 liaison offices in 15 other countries. It was founded on 6 September 1943 by a group of businessmen led by the industrialist and philanthropist Eugenio Garza Sada, who had been educated at MIT. In 1950 it became the first foreign university in history to be accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and it was the first university outside the U.S. to establish an internet connection in the Western Hemisphere.
