The Indian School of Business was started in 1996 by a group of businessmen and academics — its co-founders, senior McKinsey executives Rajat Gupta and Anil Kumar, directed teams of the firm's consultants to build the school, with formal partnerships established with Wharton and Kellogg. The foundation stone of the Hyderabad campus was laid in 1999 and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee inaugurated it in 2001; a second campus in Mohali followed, inaugurated in December 2012. A private school offering post-graduate management programmes, it has drawn famous Indian academics including Raghuram Rajan and Dipak Jain to teach and research there.
