The Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) was founded in Bergen in 1936 as Norway's first business school, at a time when business administration was not yet considered an academic discipline in the country. Its original two-year handelskandidat degree was renamed siviløkonom in 1963 and evolved into the country's defining business qualification. Admission to NHH remains the most selective in business administration in Norway; around 40 percent of its students spend a semester abroad through exchanges with more than 170 partner institutions. NHH belongs to CEMS and holds the triple accreditation of EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB.
