The Poznań University of Economics and Business traces its origin to 1926, when the Foundation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry created the College of Commerce; the school gained the authority to grant degrees in 1938, the year it was renamed the Academy of Commerce. It is the biggest and oldest business university in the Wielkopolska region, attracting students from many parts of Poland, with its main campus in Poznań and courses offered in seven other towns of western Poland, from Bydgoszcz to Zielona Góra.
