The Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) was founded on 1 October 1898 as the k.u.k. Exportakademie, an export academy created to train businessmen for the Austro-Hungarian empire. It became a fully-fledged Hochschule in 1919 as the Hochschule für Welthandel, gained doctoral rights in 1930, and took its present name in 1975 as Austria's managers and many of its politicians passed through its lecture halls. In October 2013 it moved to the purpose-built Campus WU beside the Vienna Fair Ground. A public research university, WU holds the triple accreditation of AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA.
