About Birmingham City University
Birmingham City University grew from the Birmingham College of Art, with roots back to 1843, became a polytechnic in 1971 and a university in 1992. The second-largest of Birmingham's five universities, it teaches business, law, computing, healthcare and the performing arts from two main campuses, and a £125 million city-centre expansion anchors the Eastside technology and learning quarter. Its identity is bound to its city: roughly half its full-time students come from the West Midlands, with strong representation from the region's ethnic-minority communities.
