HEC Paris was founded in 1881 by Gustave Emmanuel Roy, president of the Paris Chamber of Commerce, with 57 students in its first class, conceived to be for management what the École Centrale was for engineering. A non-profit grande école, it adopted the Harvard case method as early as 1921; in 1964 President Charles de Gaulle inaugurated its wooded campus at Jouy-en-Josas, southwest of Paris, and women have been admitted since 1973. In 1988 it co-founded the CEMS alliance with ESADE, Bocconi and the University of Cologne. Today HEC also operates campuses in Doha and Abidjan and offers MiM, MSc in International Finance, MBA, Executive MBA and PhD programmes.
