KU Leuven is the Dutch-speaking Catholic university of Flanders and one of Europe's historic universities: the Catholic university was founded in 1834 in Mechelen and moved to the historic centre of Leuven in 1835. In 1968, after the 'Leuven affair', it split into two distinct universities — the Dutch-speaking KU Leuven, which remained in Leuven, and the French-speaking UCLouvain, which moved to the new town of Louvain-la-Neuve. Its Maurits Sabbe Library, serving the faculty of theology, is according to the American Theological Library Association the largest theological library in the world. The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) carries its business teaching.
