Vlerick Business School traces to 1953, when the professor, politician and entrepreneur André Vlerick founded a centre for productivity studies at the State University of Ghent, which in 1983 became the autonomous Instituut Professor Vlerick voor Management. In 1999 it merged with the international MBA programme KU Leuven had run since 1968, forming a school jointly rooted in Belgium's two great universities. Renamed Vlerick Business School in 2012, it teaches on campuses in Ghent, Leuven and Brussels — the latter opened in 2013 — and presents itself as heir to one of Europe's oldest management-education traditions.
