About Trinity College Dublin

Trinity College Dublin, founded in 1592 by royal charter of Queen Elizabeth I, is Ireland's oldest university and one of the seven ancient universities of Britain and Ireland — the sole constituent college of the University of Dublin. Built on the site of the former Priory of All Hallows, its grounds hold the Book of Kells (housed there since 1661), the Trinity College harp and the world's oldest student society, The Hist (1770), drawing over two million visitors a year. Its alumni run from Oscar Wilde, Jonathan Swift and Samuel Beckett to Edmund Burke and Éamon de Valera; its scientists coined the term electron and performed the first artificial nuclear transmutation.
