About Nyenrode Business University
Nyenrode Business Universiteit is the only private institution of higher education in the Netherlands with university status, and its origin explains its motto, 'For Business, By Business': it was founded in 1946 as the Netherlands Training Institute for Abroad by renowned Dutch companies — KLM, Shell, Unilever, Philips and AkzoNobel — on an idea of KLM director Albert Plesman. It teaches from a large estate around Nijenrode Castle in Breukelen, between Amsterdam and Utrecht, the castle that gives the university its name.
