Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University was created in 1971 from the division of the historic University of Paris — the medieval Sorbonne — after the May 1968 protests. Most of the economics professors of the old Faculty of Law and Economics (35 of 41) chose to build this multidisciplinary university together with humanities colleagues. Its name joins its two symbolic homes, the Panthéon and the Sorbonne, and its headquarters look onto Place du Panthéon in the Latin Quarter, with more than 25 buildings across Paris. Its three pillars are economics and management, the human sciences, and legal and political science.
