Frankfurt School of Finance & Management is a private, non-profit business school in Frankfurt am Main whose story begins in 1957 with the Bankakademie, founded by Karl Friedrich Hagenmüller and Reinhold Sellien to train bank employees. The academy grew with German banking — restructured in 1966 with the private banking associations and cooperative banks as members — and in 1990 established the Hochschule für Bankwirtschaft, whose first 35 graduates completed business degrees in 1995 combining study with work placements. Authorised to award doctorates since 2004, the school now teaches undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and executive programmes in business, finance and management, working with companies, central banks and NGOs.
