HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, formerly Handelshochschule Leipzig, is one of the world's oldest business schools: it was established in 1898 on the initiative of the Leipzig Chamber of Commerce. Its history follows Germany's: integrated into Leipzig University in 1946, it regained partial independence in 1969 and, after the fall of the Iron Curtain and reunification, was re-founded under private management in 1992 — once again on the initiative of the same Chamber of Commerce. A private school accredited by AACSB, it is authorised to award doctoral and postdoctoral degrees.
