About Universität Kiel (CAU)

Kiel University — the Christiana Albertina — was founded in 1665 by Christian Albert, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp, and is the largest, oldest and most prestigious university in Schleswig-Holstein; until 1866 it was simultaneously Germany's northernmost university and the second-largest university of Denmark. Its faculty, alumni and researchers have won 12 Nobel Prizes, it hosts the oldest institute of public international law in Germany and Europe, and it works closely with the Kiel Institute for the World Economy and the GEOMAR ocean research centre. In 2024 it enrolled 24,925 students across eight faculties, with over 400 professors and more than 190 degree programmes.
