About KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (WFI)

The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt is the only Catholic university in Germany and, though small — 4,800 students in 2019 — the largest non-state university in the country. Its roots reach to a seminary founded in 1564 and to the old University of Ingolstadt of 1472, the first university in Bavaria, which King Ludwig I moved to Munich in 1826 to become today's LMU. The modern university came into existence in 1980, with the future Pope Benedict XVI, Joseph Ratzinger, playing a major role in its formation, and in 1990 it established the WFI — Ingolstadt School of Management, one of Germany's foremost business schools, on the site of that first Bavarian university.
