Technische Universität Berlin was the first German university to adopt the name Technische Universität, and it invented a discipline: the degree in Industrial Engineering and Management, first offered in the winter term of 1926/27 at the request of industrialists who wanted graduates trained in both technology and management — one of the oldest programmes of its kind anywhere. A TU9 member and University of Excellence within the Berlin University Alliance, its people have included ten Nobel laureates and Konrad Zuse, creator of the first fully functional programmable computer, and almost 27% of its students in 2019 were international, among the highest shares in Germany.
