Columbia Business School, established in 1916 with 11 full-time faculty members and an inaugural class of 61 students — 8 of them women — is one of the oldest business schools in the world, one of six in the Ivy League, and part of the elite M7 group. It grew fast, reaching 420 students by 1920, added a PhD in 1924, authorised the MBA in 1945, and in the 1950s adopted Hermes, the god of commerce, as its emblem. Its executive programmes now span the globe, including EMBA partnerships with London Business School launched in 2001.
