About Notre Dame Mendoza
The Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame was founded in 1921, though commerce had been taught on campus since a Mercantile Department appeared in 1853, and in 1917 Notre Dame became the first university to launch a four-year course in foreign commerce. Renamed in 2000 after a donation by Tom Mendoza, the college still follows the maxim of its founding dean, John Cardinal O'Hara — 'the primary purpose of business is service to mankind' — expressed today in its motto, 'To Grow the Good in Business'. Its network counts over 40,000 alumni.
