About Università di Bergamo

The University of Bergamo was founded on 11 December 1968 as an Institute of Foreign Languages and Literature, adding its economics and business degree in 1974 — a faculty from 1988 — and engineering at Dalmine in 1990, when the private institute passed to the State under its present name. Its growth restored some of the finest buildings of Bergamo's Upper City: the former Venetian governor's palace in Piazza Vecchia, Capuchin and Augustinian monasteries, the Collegio Baroni. Enrolments more than doubled through the 2000s, and the university now spans seven departments and three campuses.
