About Università della Calabria

The University of Calabria was founded in 1972 at Arcavacata, outside Cosenza, by a group including the economists Beniamino Andreatta and Paolo Sylos Labini — conceived as a residential campus university, still rare in Italy. With about 35,000 students and 800 teaching and research staff, it has grown into the South's model campus: since 2024 it has held first place among Italy's large universities in the Censis ranking. Its honorary graduates in modern philology include Roberto Benigni.
