About EPFL (Financial Engineering)
EPFL is Switzerland's federal institute of technology in Lausanne, whose roots go back to the École spéciale de Lausanne, a private school of 1853 that opened with just eleven students. It grew inside the Académie and then University of Lausanne until 1969, when it separated and became a federal institution under its current name — directly controlled, like ETH Zurich, by the Swiss Federal Council. Its urban campus stretches along Lake Geneva and includes the EPFL Innovation Park; affiliates include a Nobel laureate, two Fields Medalists and a Turing Award winner, and its students come from over 130 countries.
