About ETH Zürich (MTEC)

ETH Zurich — the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology — was founded by the Swiss Confederation on 7 February 1854 and gave its first lectures in 1855 as a polytechnic school, an institution so central to the city that locals still call it 'Poly'. Restructured along university lines between 1905 and 1908, it awarded its first doctorates in 1909 and took its current name in 1911. A federal institution alongside its sister EPFL, ETH counts 22 Nobel laureates among affiliated students, faculty and researchers — Albert Einstein among them — and stands with the world's leading universities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
