About Federico II di Napoli

The University of Naples Federico II was founded on 5 June 1224 by Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Sicily — the world's oldest state-funded, secular university in continuous operation, created to train administrators for his kingdom rather than clerics for the Church. Thomas Aquinas studied there. With over 90,000 students it ranks among Europe's largest universities, and it was Naples' only state university until 1991. Its recent history bends to the digital: in 2016 it hosted the world's first Apple iOS Developer Academy, followed in 2018 by the Cisco Digital Transformation Lab. Alumni include three Presidents of the Italian Republic.
