The Zurich University of Applied Sciences — ZHAW — is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Switzerland, based in Winterthur with facilities in Zurich and Wädenswil. It was founded in September 2007 from the merger of four previously independent institutions, but its roots run deep: the Technikum Winterthur, founded in 1874, was Switzerland's largest engineering school, and the school of business and administration established in 1968 was likewise the first of its kind in the country. Its eight departments span engineering, health, applied psychology and — through its School of Management and Law — business.
